Transcript of Interview

Interviewer #1: First question; what is your undergraduate course?

Ms. Tangkeko: BS in Computer Studies.

Interviewer #1: How did you get involved to teach?

Ms. Tangkeko: How did I you get involved to teach? Actually I was invited several times by the executive vice president before, who is the ??? of ???, I think twice, he already invited me but, I have never viewed myself as a teacher, I do not know why, but I have never viewed myself as a teacher, I do not know why I suddenly decided to teach.

Interviewer #1: Do you enjoy teaching?

Ms. Tangkeko: yes I do.

Interviewer #1: how long have you been teaching?

Ms. Tangkeko: I’ve been teaching here at La Salle for, I think, more than 11 years.

Interviewer #1: Do you find the teaching pay to be very good?

Ms. Tangkeko: no, even though La Salle is, I think, the highest paying institution, no its [the pay] is not.

Interviewer: why do you think it is?

Ms Tangkeko: well, if I go outside, I think I will be paid more.

Interviewer #1: How much teaching in units do you do in a school year?

Ms. Tangkeko: As I have answered the previous group; typically, a faculty will have 12 units in a term, so if we multiply that by 3 that will be 36, but I always have 15, sometimes 17. So in an average, 15 times 3, that’s 45…

Interviewer #1: have you had your personal video before where your teaching was recorded?

Ms. Tangkeko: yes, today

Interviewer #1: Ms. How do you feel about the idea of recording the lecture?

Ms. Tangkeko: well, its ok because it can be used by other professors as a guide, pointing out what is wrong in teaching and what might be a good methodology for teaching and those who are absent during that time can also use said video to gain knowledge of what was said in that class. So it is useful.

Interviewer #2: Ms, what do you consider as your strengths in teaching?

Ms. Tangkeko: my strength in teaching, I think it is experience because prior to teaching, I have been involved in systems development under the ITC for more than 11 years also

Interviewer #2: um… what are your weaknesses, Ms?

Ms. Tangkeko: weaknesses? Well, as I have mentioned in the previous interview, my weakness is, I think, I have no educational background so I do not know what are the formal teaching methodologies or techniques, I just use what I know and what I read based these, I incorporate my experience in my lectures so I do not know if what I’m doing is something formal or not

Interviewer #2: Ms, do you think there are students like you?

Ms. Tangkeko: I am assuming they do… (Ms probably misheard the question)

Interviewer #2: in what way do you think?

Ms. Tangkeko: well, for one, because I think, I am approachable, though sometimes I am strict…

Interviewer #1: but you have to have a balance of that?

Ms. Tangkeko: well, maybe because I do help out students…

Interviewer #2: Ms, what do you consider as your best strategy?

Ms. Tangkeko: my best teaching strategy is…. Infusing examples and exercises within the lecture because, well, if you just have lectures and lectures its kind of boring… and I don’t think you will gain something if you do not have the exercises.

Interviewer #2: Ms, do give incentive points?

Ms. Tangkeko: you always ask me for incentive points [everyone: JJJJ]... that’s why I do give incentive points because my students keep on asking for points, so yeah, I do give…

Interviewer #2: Ms, how long have you been doing these strategies you use for teaching?

Ms. Tangkeko: I think since, the start that I have been using it…

Interviewer #2: Ms, have you ever encountered a student cheating?

Ms. Tangkeko: cheating? Yes, of course, I have caught several students cheating, and they are just lucky that I don’t fail them in the course, I fail them on the… (Interviewer #1: exam?) depending on what, where I caught them cheating…

Interviewer #2: Ms, how did you handle, once you caught them cheating?

Ms. Tangkeko: I got their papers and marked them with 0.0, no questions asked…

Interviewer #2: What is your view of a cheating student?

Ms. Tangkeko: they are bad students.. well, it’s your responsibility to study, then what is the point of you cheating? Actually, when you cheat, you are deceiving yourself, no one else… you’re not gaining anything from cheating…

Interviewer #2: Ms, what is your view on honesty?

Ms. Tangkeko: well, if I do not like cheating, and cheating is a form of dishonesty, so I do not like dishonest students… everybody has a responsibility, as a student, you have responsibility, and I would appreciate if a student would just tell me what are the reasons why they have not done what they are supposed to do rather than lie…

Interviewer #2: so Ms, you stayed in La Salle for a long time already, do you know the life story of St. La Salle?

Ms. Tangkeko: Yes

Interviewer #2: do you know he is the patron saint of teaching?

Ms. Tangkeko: [J] I know the like story of St. La Salle, definitely, I know… JJJ

Interviewer #2: J…. Can you summarize?

Ms. Tangkeko: can I summarize? Well for starters, St. La Salle is.. I going to say that he was poor, he was actually part of the rich and he decided to give all his material possessions and decided to help the poor, that’s how he started.

Interviewer #2: Do you follow his teaching principles?

Ms. Tangkeko: I do hope I am following his principles, his values… maybe that’s the reason I’m still here in La Salle… I do believe in St. La Salle….

Interviewer #1: So do you remember your first day on the job?

Ms. Tangkeko: no, I do not anymore…

Interviewer #1: ok, so do you remember any teaching experience that you consider as the best so far?

Ms. Tangkeko: the best so far is… well every time my students… are able to answer questions correctly, I think that would be one of the best, [when] they are prepared in class…

Interviewer #1: what about , Ms, the worst teaching experience?

Ms. Tangkeko: … JJ I can’t remember the worst eh, I can remember what I have given the other group JJ… I gave one pero, I can’t remember… well, the worst would be if the projectors are not working [interviewers: J], everything that you have prepared for, I cannot use or I have to revert back to the blackboard, using of chalk, and the students are noisy, actually, for me, the worst day would be me shouting at the class… (nawawala ung voice ko), anyway, other than that, we will not have a good discussion if the students are noisy, some students would not want to listen, they just want to talk with each other, its not a good environment for the teacher…

Interviewer #1: so, last question; I you weren’t a teacher today, what would you be instead?

Ms. Tangkeko: if I weren’t a teacher today, what would I be instead? … I think I would still be in the industry and maybe… I would be holding a position in the IT department. The reason why I left ITC, you see, I reached the end, with the exception of the directorship… parang nowhere to go so I decided to… if I did not decide to teach, maybe I would be in one of the companies….

Interviewer #1: ms, do you have any regrets being a teacher?

Ms. Tangkeko: … well maybe because I, I worked first prior to teaching, so I can’t compare the two, a I do love teaching… despite the fact that its not economically… [everyone: JJJJ]... so what else? Any other questions?

Interviewer #1: no, that’s it, thank you ms

SOCCOMP Experiment no.6 (Youtube Traffic Experiment))

Time of research:
07/16/10 (Fri): 6AM - 8AM
07/17/10 (Sat): 6AM - 8AM
07/18/10 (Sun): 6AM - 8AM

1. Analyze the videos uploaded in terms of Youtube category. Use tag cloud to measure the popularity of the category.

Based on the group's observation, we have found out that the most uploaded video based on categories would be 'People and Blogs' followed by 'Music'.

2. What are the most commonly used tags?(You may also use tag cloud for this purpose)

Analyzing the tags posted in Youtube, they usually use an English word even if they are not from U.S or U.K. Some Brazilians, Germans, Indians, etc would use English to tag their video instead of using their own language like Portuguese or German. There are also numbers, though they may seem strange, we still cannot identify why they use long numbers to tag people. We can only come up to a conclusion that, the numbers represent as a code so that only a few people, specifically friends or family, who can view the video.

3. What's the average length of the video uploaded?
Average length: 2 minutes and 31 seconds
Longest length: 9 minutes and 57 seconds
Shortest length: 9 seconds

4. What's the average age of the video uploader?
Average age: 26 years old
Oldest age: 61 years old
Youngest age: 13 years old

People with the most uploads would be between the ages 20 - 30 years old. The oldest person to upload a video is 61 years old and the youngest would be 13 years old. This is only based on a 3 day time span so other results may vary depending on day and time of upload.

5. Get the statistics of uploads by country
Most uploads: USA
2nd most uploads: UK
Least uploads: Zimbabwe, UAE, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Romania, Pakistan, Netherlands, Fiji, Cleavland, Canada, Bangladesh, Argentina. All having 1 upload each
Most of the uploads by Americans based on category is still 'People and Blogs'. Average age of American uploaders is 29 years old, pretty much close to the average age of all uploaders which is 26 years old.

6. Get the statistics uploads by language.
Most language uploaded: English
2nd Most language uploaded: Portuguese
Least language uploaded: Arabic, Bangla, Dutch, Romanian, Russian, Shona, Slovene, Swedish, Urdu. All having 1 upload each.
The languages in the videos are mostly English coming from USA, UK, Canada, Fiji, and Cleavland.

7. Get the count of the videos that were blocked.
No videos were blocked during the experiment. This is because these videos are just recently uploaded videos and Youtube might not have been able to check the video yet whether it is copyrighted or having a sexual content. But so far, the group thinks that all the videos found are relevant and legitimate.

8. Other significant results.
None

Conclusion
It is already given that English, being the universal language for all countries, will have the most uploads in Youtube. Majority of the age groups that upload the videos are between 20 - 30 years old. We can simply say that most of the young adults are active in uploading videos in Youtube.
